Institute for NanoScience Design, Osaka University (Established in 2008) Many scientists all over the world now realize the importance of education and research training in the fields of nano-science and nano-engineering, since they are really multi-/trans-disciplinary covering physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and engineering, electronics, mechanics, medicine, etc. and become important key technology for the sustainable development of many kinds of emerging science and technology. In order to hand on the accumulated knowledge of the related fields to graduate school students and younger scientists who will design and develop new kinds of fields for future nano-science and nano-engineering, the Institute for NanoScience Design prepares various kinds of education and training programs such as trans-disciplinary graduate-school minor program, evening course refresher program, short-term international research training program, etc. It offers a series of lectures, some of them in the form of distance education broadcasted live to satellite classrooms located many places in Japan, and tentatively even overseas in English.

In addition to the lecture courses, the students can join an intensive hands-on training programs using modern facilities equipped in and outside of the Institute, allowing them to design, fabricate, measure, characterize and functionalize nano-materials and nano-devices. Project-aimed learning and training programs are also offered in collaboration with the Academia-Industry Liaison Consortium.

These programs are supported and conducted by the joint groups of lectures and researchers belonging to six graduate schools and five research institutions and centers related to nano-science and nano-engineering in Osaka University. The details of the education and training programs are shown in the attached file. More detail
